Upside Down

I know ParisBreakfast has been M.I.A.(missing in action) all week but we were upside down.Panic hit and it hit hard!!
Our wifi box broke last Saturday !!!!!!! For SIX days!
Right in the middle of a crucial moment on Netflix's House of Cards! Can things get worse? Yes, my fridge door was hanging by a thread about to fall off.
I went out to check the height of my bridge.
A. Too low for a proper jump.
B. The Republique Guard were taking their morning march.
Plus I had my annual Visa rendes-vous at the Prefecture on Wednesday!!
The usual avalanche of papers required. And NO wifi :((
We sailed through with flying colors.
Why? Thanks to my terrific lawyer, AC Dana who speaks perfect French. And because they completely forgot about us. We waited 2 hours. We were the last ones waiting. At 4:50, AC reminded them of our presence. Naturally they wanted to go home at 5 pm so we 'sailed through'. Ta Da
The day after the visa victory, the wifi technician came. Receiving the French legion d'honor may be easier than getting a technician to your house. I kid you not.
We were happy as polourde clams. We asked the technician to marry us but he's already married so we gave him a ParisBreakfast Sketch letter for his wife...
By the way your March Sketch letters went out yesterday, a tad late...ahem. Please excuse.
There is a new single letter on Etsy (folded in a regular envelope so costs less!)
Plus Big News.
The March Macaron Map is on Bonjour Paris, a terrifically informative Paris online subscription newsletter.
Please do check it out and subscribe!
Alls well that ends well ;))

  1. Another year, with permission to stay and live/work in France. We've always found if you're the last in the queue, it does seem to help get that official stamp with out awkward questions . Great for you.

So glad you've been blessed with the official pixie dust to stay another year. It sounds like you've had a terrible infestation of what I call the house gremlins. They come and leave havoc in their wake. But the good news is they are terrified of all "technicians" and leave the premises as soon as one arrives. Hopefully you'll be gremlin-free for awhile now. It was a close call on that bridge, thank goodness you didn't take the plunge. Those gremlins are evil and can drive us to do all manner of craziness. Take care!

So, based on some of the comments I ascertain that you have to reapply every year? Sorry, I did not know.
Yes, when one thing in the household quits working another one is sure to follow, usually things break or quit working in threes, I know from experience. To not have WIFI is the worst!
I am happy that everything is fixed now.

Yes visa renewal is annual unless you win the impossible 10-year or marry a French guy.

  14. Carol, I am having a catch up on your site, and am glad to know that all is better now, wifi restored, and that your Paris life has been extended...as it should be, of course.

I am now reading Elaine Sciolino's The Only Street in Paris, and find it a fine accompanyment to your marvelous posts...just as I knew it would.

Rosettia Stone French is on sale via Amazon and B&N. Shall I indulge, to brush up on my French?

    Bravo to votre avocat!

I'm glad tat everything is working again, but sad to hear that it took so long to get it fixed - 6 days is much too long......
It seems like the last visa renewal was just a few months ago!

  16. So glad that you made it through the complex visa requirements. Sounds like having a lawyer to help is worth it. I really do hope to have French visa troubles one day. Jour du Macaron is another special occasion definitely on my Paris wish list. Congratulations on your inclusion in Bonjour Paris.Every parisbreakfasts post has so much food for thought- I'm intrigued by the Republic Guard photo, and I love your first upside down primary photo too.
